Show Week

So, the week leading up to a show is always the craziest week. The one where everything comes together magically (or so it seems) and hours and hours of work are put into stitching together all of the pieces that make up the finished product.

Well, it's show week for this piece. With the performances on Thursday I am happy to say I've completed the score and had a first successful rehearsal. I would certainly have loved to have prepared myself a bit better in the opening weeks of school, so as to prevent what I am not feeling, but hopefully everything magically works out. It is, after all, show week. And I am excited! And nervous! But mostly, excited!

Crunch Time

With the performances coming up on the 25th, it is time to get this DONE.

I've found it hard to finish the second and third movements. Inspiration hasn't been coming to me in streams, rather, in blocks, so there has been little flow in the past week. It also hasn't helped that I'm exceptionally unmotivated, especially considering how busy I have been, and am currently. I have inspirations for other compositions that are much more readily apparent in my mind, and I find myself unable to ignore them (well, I lack the desire to ignore, I should say) and focus on getting through this project. Though, often it only takes a spark of inspiration to re-invigorate the progress of a composition, and that usually comes when you try to think less about what you're writing and just write something. Well, for me anyways.

Tonight, I'm hoping, can prove to be the night that I finish (at least conceptually) this set of pieces. Though, I don't want to get ahead of myself..

In the meantime, check out this cool new Canadian composition I found.
